I haven't talked much about being pregnant here. Maybe because it's too personal. Maybe it's because I don't have enough nice to things say and I don't want to complain.
Whatever the case, I have been feeling better for about the last 2 weeks. I actually feel like I have re-entered the land of the living. I know longer wake up in the morning plotting when I can catch a nap. I am past the stage of being unable to dream up something I would like to eat. Yes, I am feeling better.
Pregnancy suits some women, they "glow." I do not share this sentiment. Perhaps the only things I enjoy about being pregnant is never feeling the need to suck in my stomach (come on, you know this is awesome) and long, healthy finger nails. Feeling a human life move inside of your is pretty awesome too.
I will also say that I have been oh so lucky as to only vomit ONE time between all three of my pregnancies (knock on wood). In fact, the first two pregnancies, I was not really that sick. I thought I was, I would be a bit nauseous at times, like when I was hungry, or perhaps ate to much, or smelled something bad. But let me just say, I could not even spell the word nauseous until this time around.
Another crazy thing, my first two pregnancies, I did not really have any weird cravings or aversions. But this third time, the oddest thing happened. I have been repulsed by tea. Hot tea and iced tea.
Yes tea. One of my daily (several times a day) enjoyments. From about week 6 to week 15, I think I had maybe 4 cups of green tea or chamomile (previously my least favorites), whereas 5 months ago, began my day with hot tea, drank iced tea at meals, and I craved an Earl Grey Latte daily. This has been a sad thing for me. I miss the hot mug in my hand, but the thought of actually drinking it made me sick. Now that I have been feeling better, I have been able to drink a few cups. I even had one last night. Maybe I am turning a corner?
So on this Friday, I would love to hear your pregnancy oddities. I have a friend who was a coffee lover but when she was pregnant, she had to ask her husband to put the coffee pot in their garage because it made her so sick. I have another friend who drank a 1/2 gallon of orange juice a day. She couldn't get enough. What about you (sorry to those of you who cannot comment, you can share the weirdest thing you have heard)?
I can't wait to read your comments!
PS. We find out the sex of our baby on Monday! I can hardly contain myself. I promise to share here by Tuesday but will probably twitter it on Monday. I think my post will either be titled, Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice or Snips, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails as Mother Goose so aptly put it.

My mom, grandmother, aunt, and cousin (who just gave birth to her second baby last night) all despised chicken. They said it smelled bad, and it tasted like it was covered in sand! Sad thing is, I love chicken. I’m interested to see if I follow their pattern when I have kids one day!

Watermelon! I couldn’t get enough fresh watermelon during my first pregnancy. My poor husband spent hours driving all over western NC, in the winter, finding it for me (I was on bedrest with pre-eclampsia).

Okay so mine was I craved the smell of gasoline. Obviously I couldn’t indulge that one unless I was pumping gas. Another was tomatoes and crushed ice. Together or seperate! With all 3 pregnancies those were my have to haves!

Well, I’m the half gallon if orange juice girl, but when i am pregnant I also can’t stand the smell if anything pumpkin related! In fact, it’s not just when I’m pregnant, but nursing too! I have hated pumpkin candles for the last 3 years, some former favorites if mine!

I was in the “sick” phase of my pregnancies during Christmas time, and to this day anything that remotely smells like Christmas makes me gag! I also could not get enough orange juice or jalapenos both times!

Love your adorable post and THANK YOU for learning the sex….and sharing! Praise God, the suspense would have killed me!
As for odditys – with my 1st I craved Potato Chips and Yogurt for the first 3 months….was never sick, it was a boy, and he is addicted to chips, coincidence? With my 2nd, the smell of milk and cologne (Aqua di Gio) made me hurl…the cologne still does…I craved different ethnic foods daily, it was a girl, and she will eat anything ;)

I had the same experience with my 3rd pregnancy also. My first 2 (boys), I was hardly sick at all. But my 3rd (girl), I could not drink coffee, which I LOVE! I couldn’t stand the smell of it. It lasted almost my entire pregnancy, but as soon as I gave birth, my love of coffee returned :-)
So I’m going to go out on a limb and say that your next post will be entitled, “Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!”…..lol!
God Bless!

Ice… I just gave birth to my 3rd child last week and all I wanted to eat during pregnancy was ice… I even enjoyed getting test done at the hospital because they always offered me and cup of ice. They had the best ice at the hospital, which I would always tell them, and they would just smile probably thinking “pregnant women are so weird.”

Lemons…whole ones–peel and all…about 2-3 a day, 2-4 times a week with my first baby. Fortunately we were in south Florida at the time and had trees of them everywhere. But FYI, so bad for your teeth. Suffering the effects still today.

how far along are you?
I had two great 1st two pregnancies, but my last one (my 3rd, Owens now 6 mo), was not easy. I had some nausea but not to bad.. the thing for me that was hardest was my face and back broke out like I Was 16!! IT was so bad I actually stayed out of public for a month straight.. skipping church even… I Was so embarrassed at how bad it got. MY husband being the pastor people just assumed I Was home because I was having morning sickness :-\
MY face didnt clear up until about month 8… but got a lot better after the 1st trimester.
I thought I was having a girl because they say “the girls take your beauty” lol- and with my 1st two (both boys), I never got acne pregnant.. in fact my skin did glow with them! so i thought for sure we were having a girl this time ;-) but nope heeehee.
Each pregnancy is different.. none easy… both take toles on us mommys.. but so worth it.
I also had pre-term labor with my 3rd, going into the hospital at 29 weeks.. but was stopped and i stayed pregnant til 39 weeks (my longest pregnancy).
Owen is a healthy sweet almost 20 lbs baby now, and I love being a mom of 3 boys.
Stretch marks and all! haha
Hang in there!
oh and for morning sickness, what helped me was eating sour candy! also if your prenatals make you sick, take flintstone vitamins, those help too.. and most obgyns will give you the go on them to.

I am on my third and I am having a tough time. My first two pregnancies included Hyperemesis. This time around I have good drugs. However, I am still nauseated. It just takes enough of the edge off to keep me from living next to the toilet. I am trying not to complain either as this is the first pregnancy that happened “naturally” but some days….
During every pregnancy, my main craving was Dole pineapple. I like it room temp and out of a can. My co-workers would laugh at me walking around with my can and plastic fork all day. This time around, I have no appetite but I won’t turn down my Dole! With number 2, I craved root beer floats.
I don’t like dogs at all and all of the sudden, I want one! I feel crazy…Ha ha ha. Oh….the oddities of pregnancy.

Can’t wait to hear if it’s a boy or a girl Holly! So glad you’re finally feeling better:)

With my first I laid by an open window in the wintertime wanting to die with the nausea 24/7. I ate only saltine crackers. Had to leave my job which was tough with my husband in Bible College. By the 4th month, I was like a new woman…could eat anything and felt fantastic. With my second, I was nauseated the same, but now with an active four yr old to look after with my hubby busy at the church office…and no family around, I pushed myself more. It was a very tough time. I craved hot peppers and anything spicy when I was able to eat after the 4 month mark. With my third child, I was nauseated the same and craved olives after the 4th month. For all three pregnancies, during the first four months, I detested the scent of my own body and aftershave and perfume would make me want to vomit. Who can understand it? haha.

avacado!!! during my 2nd pregnancy i developed a love that had previously not existed! couldn’t get enough… and still can’t! yum!!

I threw up from beginning to end (literally–the last time was during labor), including once behing the wheel of the car. I am prone to nausea anyway, and often feel ill for no reason, but it’s always better to just get it out, so I feel so sorry for you feeling sick but not throwing up!
I craved fruit all the time–and now, that’s pretty much all my toddler will eat! I was very succeptible to suggestion too. If I saw a KFC commercial, I HAD to have some. Once, a TV show used the word “dollop” and my mind immediately said “dollop of Daisy–must have Mexican food with sour cream NOW.”

my greatest aversions during pregnancy were two of my absolute favorites – Firebirds Chicken Pasta and Starbucks. I couldn’t even bare to walk into a Starbucks without feeling like I was going to lose it.
Can’t wait to hear the gender! :) xoxo.

I lived off of ginger ale and saltines for about 4 months. Then, I craved meat ALL THE TIME. We had steak at least 2-3x a week, and sloppy joes about 2x a week.
Posted By: Britt J. | October 1st, 2010 at 12:45 pm
I had nothing with my first baby but with my second(both boys) every time I walked into the produce section I had to buy watermelon. It was like the only thing I smelled and I had to eat it. I also learned to love(okay be obsessed with) salt and vinegar chips. I had always hated them prior to this time but I could not get enough…I still like them too-kinda wished I didn’t!

With my first one I was working at a doctors clinic and the ladies ordered out on Fridays and we all ordered subs and when they arrived I was over taken by the smell and could not make it to the restroom and ended up hanging over one of the trash cans in the office and lets just say everyone lost their appetite.
I think it is a girl,
Thanks,
Rhonda

During my first pregnancy I could not handle meat in any form. I could not walk near the meat department in the grocery store, I couldn’t tolerate the smell of it being cooked and definitely could not fathom consuming it. My poor husband. I made him take the George Foreman grill outside to cook his meat. I then hid in the bedroom until he finished eating it. The worst part was that hot dogs (which I am not a huge fan of before or since) was the first and only meat I could eat-actually craved it.

Milk! Before my first pregnancy, I only drank chocolate or strawberry milk and that wasn’t often. White milk was only for breakfast when we were having pancakes, bacon, eggs, and the whole shabang. However, not long after I got pregnant, I started craving white milk all the time. In fact, it got so bad that I was drinking it out of those huge cups you get when you to the arena/stadium for a game. For the entire pregnancy, I consumed about 2 gallons of milk a day. Even now, six years later, I still can’t get enough of white milk, though not quite that much.
Can’t wait to hear what you are having. I hope you get your girl! :)

I’m glad you’re feeling better, Holly. Can’t wait to hear the news on Monday.
The woes of pregnancy – For me the constant state of feeling car sick and vomiting for 6 months straight (with all 3 babies) were not fun at all. However I really enjoyed those last 3 months – there is nothing more amazing than feeling that miracle of a baby move around inside of you. :))
Downy fabric softener and my husbands cologne both turned my stomach while pregnant. Mind you those are two things I normally LOVE the smell of. So funny how that works.
The last month of each pregnancy I couldn’t get enough milk or Italian Ice – funny because…I normally don’t like milk. :P

I am thrilled for you and Pastor Furtick! Congratulations and MANY BLESSINGS! My husband and I attended the Thr3e experience a couple of years ago, and it really fueled us. We are brand new church planters in Baltimore, MD. We have a 7 year old and one on the way as well, I am due in March. So far, I cannot stand the smell of some Mexican foods. If the scent wafts thru the air I have to hurry to cover my nose. Before pregnancy I ate Mexican. Also, I have been a vegetarian for almost 3 years, last month I had to have a chick-fil-a chicken sandwich. I gave myself permission to break my “no meat rule” especially when the Dr. encouraged me to eat fish (which I cannot even think about eating because the thought of it grosses me out, because of the smell). My first pregnancy was smooth this one is different, but I am so thankful to be pregnant we have wanted another baby for so long. God is so good. I will be praying for you, and your family, and Elevation :o)

While pregnant with my daughter I had to alway have a glass of buttermilk (to drink) at least once a day!
Posted By: Torrie Champlain | October 2nd, 2010 at 8:57 pm
With my 1st pregnancy I would become extremely nauseaous at the thought of drinking from or eating from cups and plates at restraunts. I would ask for my drink to come in a to go cup but my husband forbid me to ask to eat out of a to go box!

I’m struggling with the coffee smell myself. I usually have 2 cups a day, and now when it’s brewing….I have to leave the room. I crave pasta, pasta, and more pasta….which I usually only have maybe once a week. I’m with you on the nausea…this time is the worst. I don’t even think you know that I’m pregnant again-8 weeks. Now you know!

I craved asparagus with my first pregnancy. I had always hated it; couldn’t even stand the smell, but when I got pregnant, I LOVED it and couldn’t get enough of it!

Orange juice was always a favorite of mine during all three pregnancies. I had to have my own carton because the glass did not provide adequate enough flow for the guzzling of it that needed to be done! I chugged it.
As for my other cravings, well each of my children have a nickname for the particular craving I had during their pregnancy. My first is peanut butter because I ate it straight from the jar during her pregnancy. My second is tater tot. The Lord definitely provided for me by placing me in a school where tater tots are on the menu at least 3 days a week. And my final little one is pizza. I almost ate it every day.
Congratulations to you and Pastor Furtick! I’m going to guess from my own experience that the next title will be “Sugar, and Spice, and Everything Nice.”

With my son, I craved grapes – all the time – and was repulsed by Chinese food and pizza. Two things I loved before and after he was born.
With my daughter, I craved chocolate all the time. Again, pizza was not a friend of mine.
Given how this pregnancy is different from Elijah & Graham – I’ll bet you any money you’re going to have a little girl! :) A little mini-fashionista, like her Mom!

Before my first pregnancy I loved Chick-fil-a, but even more than that I loved working right across the street from Chick-fil-a. It was always my first choice for lunch. When I was pregnant I could not stomach the smell of it. Every time I walked out into the parking lot I would try to hold my breath until safely back indoors. At the time I worked at a vet office and would choose the smell of a stinky dog over the lingering smell of my once love for chicken mini’s in the morning. Once after work my husband want chick-fil-a and I gave in, but ONLY if he would park several parking lots away at Stonecrest and stash his food in the trunk when he returned….and ate it outside once home. Yes, this is how bad it was. With all precautions I still got sick! Congrats on having a girl. I have three and trust me it is GREAT!

Hi Holly!! We are only about 2-3 weeks apart!! WE found out we are having another girl just in the last couple weeks! With my daughter, I craved milk, like a new born baby!! I went to the doctor and they couldnt figure out why I had gained about 8lbs in 2 weeks. Come to find out drinking about 6 glassese of skim milk was not the greatest idea.. haha
With this one, I have craved sauerkraut like its going outof style!! So if you are ever sitting in serivce and you get a wiff of sauerkraut perfurme… Its me and baby Emma!!
Posted By: Rachael | October 4th, 2010 at 7:23 pm
Cheetos and peanut butter.
That was all my stomach could handle for about 3 months with all 3 of my pregnancies.
I love coffee too, but for whatever reason, it smelled like tuna to me until the second trimester.
So…cheetos and peanut butter. Well, that and those devil’s food cake cookies.
At any rate, congratulations on the girl!!! Bring on the pink!

Mine was watermelon!! I had my son in summer, 2008 and the entire summer I would walk in the grocery stores buying the biggest watermelons I could find! I was so thirsty, and it was something about all the juice in watermelons that made me crave them!

broccoli was my enemy. my husband and i started eating healthier several months before i got pregnant. all the produce was wreaking havoc on our budget, so we decided to make a commitment and plant our first vegetable garden. while choosing all the veggies we would be nursing during Spring, my husband came across some broccoli plants. i almost pitched a fit in Lowe’s home and garden section… my eyes were literally stinging with tears. “how could this man i love so much do this to me! how could he be on Broccoli’s side?!”
i’m amazed now at my irrationality and my husband’s ability to soothe my mind about the whole thing. he kept the evil plants as far away from me as possible in the cart, carried them home, planted them himself.. and i eventually came around when harvest did too. who knew fresh broccoli could be so good?
a strange new friend? mustard. on french toast.

Hi Holly, We are so happy for you guys. Matt and I are expecting our son on April 8th. The funny thing about this pregnancy is that I love milk. I could enjoy a tall glass with every meal. You would have never seen me drinking and enjoying milk before this pregnancy, Extremely weird!!!!!!!!!!
